Visa Fees Reduced by 50 Percent

With immediate effect, Tanzania's tourist visa fees have been slashed from US $ 100 to US $ 50 per a tourist entering Tanzania, with a purpose of boosting number of tourists visiting Tanzania especially during these tough global economic times.

In his public address last week, President Jakaya Kikwete said his government is taking serious measures to rescue Tanzania’s tourism sector, which has recorded a sharp drop in tourist arrivals due to global economic downturn.

The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) had earlier advised the government of Tanzania to review visa entry and park fees, at least, to give a relief to holiday makers visiting Tanzania’s premier tourist sites.

Tanzania to host African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference

In October 2009, Tanzania will host African Diaspora Heritage Trail (ADHT) Conference, the first time that the conference is being held in Africa. It is scheduled to be held in both Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar, with objective of educating the world on the cultural heritage of African Diaspora.

ADHT Annual Conference creates a unique and inspiring environment where people committed to the development of viable African Diaspora heritage destinations may gather to explore trends, experience cultural expression, participate in professional development sessions, examine model heritage trail programs and enjoy networking with their colleagues.

Hon. Shamsa Mwanguga, Tanzanian Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism and conference host, appreciates the efforts of the ADHT to bring together people from all over the world to identify places and phenomenon in order to conserve, document and preserve the global presence and cultural influence of people of African descent, and contribute this knowledge to the world stage of history, culture and contemporary affairs.
